I would really like my non stock rom to stop reminding me every 10 minutes theses an ota update from sprint! Even though it's 4.1.2/twrp based I didn't expect stock update notices and wish I knew how to make them go away. I will head to 4.4 omnirom when it works with twrp and the multiwindow feature is enabled for 4.4

I wasn't a fan of the update. I tried it for 4 days or so. Poor battery life for me too. I switched to paranoid android kit Kat. Battery life has been great
Living it so far. Been on it for about a week

The update nags have been SOP on stock-ish ROMs of all carriers/OEMs since at least Gingerbread.

Only way to stop them is to use either a current (4.4) ROM, or use AOSP/CM ROMs.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that I just used to edit built.prop to stop the notifications on other Samsung phones I've owned (Galaxy S, S2, and S3), something like this (just an example):

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1924128

I think if someone with the update (4.3) coughs up the info from their build.prop, we should be able to sort that out and copy it to the build.prop in 4.1 and stop the notifications. This is obviously meant for rooted phones, of course.

Disclaimer - I take no credit for this idea - I glommed it off someone on XDA many moons ago.

I downloaded the 4.3 upgrade but do not want to install it...note 2 keeps on asking me how long do i want before the next reminder...how do I get rid of these reminders? I don't want to install 4.3.

Option without Knox

Guess if it ain't broke, don't fix. Still on 4.1.2 and everything works just fine, battery life, tether, etc. Obviously would like to be on the most current version but all this Knox stuff and etc just make it unattractive in my opinion and i really don't see what 4.3 brings that's radical.

I think they should have had two options and if you do not have a work phone, you do not need the knox security and the separate operating space. I bet that the coding in this area is a culprit of some of the issues that may not quickly go away. Many of the issues I am sure is loads of apps, which some have their own coding issues, and now a new operating system they are running in may make the previous troubled code worse.

I want most the improvements but have no need for KNOX and know that it is a sizable amount of the code being created for this update.

Knox is needed to prevent the idiots who intentionally messed up their phones to get a replacement. This not only jacks up the price of phones, but brings Android one step closer to the security of iOS. Thank the few who WILL ruin it for the rest of the community...

Just think how many fewer phones would end up bricked if carriers and OEMs didn't try to stop rooting and roming in the first place. Imagine how much r&d has been wasted on trying to lock down phones.

On the other end think about how many leechers stroll in here and install any recovery (from any phone) and any rom (again from any phone) and cry when they over wrote their bootloader partition and have a hard brick. The carriers should have NO obligation to replace THEIR phones. On the other hand, denying replacement of a premature screen failure just because someone rooted their phone is ridiculous. It's a double edged sword but I'm willing to put money on betting that more people screw up their phones up out of pure ignorance than those who deserve a legit replacement.

Locked bootloaders help prevent bricks unless you're trying to find exploits, which then you already know the risks of bricking. I'm talking about a HARD brick. No boot, no recovery, no Odin mode. A soft brick can be solved by a 3 minute search on Google. Too many times have I seen people bash locked bootloaders over soft bricks...

I get my hands on quite a few phones where I work at (a cell phone shop) and I don't mean to sound like an ass but maybe you've junked up your phone? I've had people come in crying about how slow their phone is when they have a million apps, enough porn to take up all the internal memory and 10 things running in the background hogging up RAM. If you do a reset/data wipe and it runs to your satisfaction, scale down on the play store app frenzy. Just because you have access to a lot of things doesn't mean you should get everything you can. Just my .02!

Also charging has always been slow on every Note 2 I've had my hands on. Probably has something to do with the gigantic battery. Note 3? Same way IMO (again chalked up to the bigger battery. Think about it, more cells, same charger, more time required to recharge those cells)

i actually like 4.3 because i dont need root i could easily disable system app.... sure they occupied space but are not running in the background and move data from games to sd card

I use Google Play music in my car using the headphone jack. If I get a notification sound while the music is going, the music volume will be higher after the notification.

Guess I'll have to reset...no biggie, but I do have one concern...how do I back up my Angry Birds Star Wars II progress? It's a real question, unfortunately :).

Buddy of mine has the Note 2 and took the OTA to 4.3. He's noticed some weird issues with his battery percentage. For example, his battery showed 10%, he rebooted, then once it came back up, it showed 50%. Has anyone else experienced this by any chance?

Titanium Backup. You can install the app from the Play Store or the backup, then restore the app data from Ti. Use this only for app data...never system data or settings.

Is this something that a dev can do for our Note 2's?

Yes it's a very simple kernel adjustment. Jellybombed had it built in. I think you can download an app for rooted handsets. I think it's called STweak? (Please correct if wrong). I'm sure there are others too.

But it's VERY IMPORTANT you know what you're doing or you can very easily fry a chip or more with the wrong voltage settings.

Charging is slow and no note 3 stuff

My battery died over night...which is fine it was 12 % when I got home.....here's the thing I plugged it in and left it to charge for about 20 min this morning then turned it on and checked galaxy current and it reported 466....unplugged and replugged a few times ...still 466.....now 7 hours later the phone is only at 89%....checked battery status still showed as usb charging @466...unplugged ..replugged now it's at 1698
this was all with the 2amp factory wall charger. My guess is that mandatory SLOW charge gets initiated when battery is below a certain level and for whatever reason doesn't automatically switch back to AC mode ever unless you unplug and replug.
I have to pay more attention to when AC or USB charging is taking place, see if it is actually based on the current battery charge at the time it's plugged in.

I hear it's Google Play Services that are to blame for battery life. That's what most of the reviews of it are saying after users grabbed an Android version update. Direct link to our issue with Note 2 maybe?

Formating the SD card also helps because the new Android version will no longer be picking through old files from an older Android installation or files that weren't correctly overwritten with the same filenames or paths. Also gets rid of old app data so 4.3 apps aren't trying to do the same thing with 4.1 data. .. All this assuming your SD card hadn't been manually partitioned by the Android version you're going to (e.g. 4.4 and sdcard/0).
