Default [Q] "No service" message using brazillian SIM card

Hello!

I bought a said "unlocked and rooted" LG G2x P999GW T-Mobile used phone through Craigstlist. The guy had his own SIM on the phone and was working fine, he showed me and everything was great. When I get to Brazil, I try to put my SIM card (Tim network) in it and it won't work. It keeps saying "No service". The SIM card is fine, because I also have an Galaxy S2 that I bought internationally and it works on that phone.

I have tried:
- Clearing the cache
- Clearing the data
- Followed the steps of "How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the T-Mobile G2X" from Theunlockr

About the phone:

- Android version: 2.3.7
- Kernel version: 2.6.32.56-CM7- Faux123-049
- Mod version: CyanogenMod-HellFire Phoenix 2.2 (It came with this mod when I bought)

When I select "Wireless & Networks" -> "Mobile Networks" -> "Network operators", it says "Error while searching for networks."

Does anyone have an idea if I can fix this? Or anything else I could try?

Thank you in advance!

Sounds like the phone is just rooted and modded, which does not mean unlocked.
My best guess would be that it is still carrier locked to T-Mobile.

G2x CM7/STOCK/CM9/CM10 KERNELS CURRENT&OLD
G2x CM7.2 build.prop mod
Androidian Rigs:
LG G2x-CM7.2 03/01/13 Build, Trinity T15

Damn I was fearing that! I'll have to figure out how to unlock it now...
Thank you for your reply! I'll stop messing with its system now because apparently everything else is good expect the signal =/
Anyway thanks again!
