I would like to add a suggestion, an alternative to grooveIP called talkatone. It is free with ads but has premium features and ad removal for a fee. I have used it for a while now with good results. I have been in Cairo Egypt since last Friday and used talkatone to call and text everyone via wifi in the US and its been great. I have never tried grooveIP but will look into it to see if it might be better. Use it on my vzw s3. I already lowered my family share plan minutes since I use the most minutes anyway and still have unlimited data.

Checking this out with my old HTC Thunderbolt. We get crappy reception from every carrier where we live (all of under a mile from a tower no less... damn hills...) so it would be cool to get my old phone working for home use only...
