Thumbs up ROOT Archos Familypad 2 - How to - IT WORKS !!!

How to ROOT Archos Familypad 2

I have tried many posted solutions and then even started looking into making a modified boot image until I finally came across a simple 1 click method. Cost me between 50-100 hrs of research and my personal time so I hope its appreciated by you.

STEP 1: ESTABLISH ADB Driver connection (skip part A if you can do this by yourself)

Part A) This can be a heart breaking experience on this particular device. I am an electrical engineer (msee degree) and I have never had problems getting the correct settings and setting up an ADB driver. But this device busted my butt. SO, to make it easy for you, and for me, download the PdaNet application (PdaNetA4126.exe) - a program called PDANet (used normally to allow you to wired tether your phone’s internet to your computer) can be used to install the ADB drivers for a lot of phones. THEN, on your Archos Familypad, turn on USB debugging, plug into computer, and start PDANet and follow it’s instructions.

Part B) VERIFY ADB: In command prompt, type "adb devices". YOU WILL SEE YOUR ARCHOS DEVICE! You can now safely delete PDANet on computer and on your Archos - we don't need it anymore. If you do not know how to get ADB or how to use ADB then STOP ROOTING YOU DEVICE NOW since you have much to learn and read before you start messing with rooting.

STEP 2: Download: "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31.zip"
see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1886460

NOTE: Be careful not to install any malware or other programs from any download sites, just get the zip file ONLY. MUST have version 31!

Unzip, run, select option 1, and presto...... YOU HAVE ROOT !!!!!!

STEP 3: Download from play store "Root Checker" or your own preferred root checking app and see the results.

Even if you restore FACTORY SETTINGS you will still have root! Yea baby!!!!!!

ENJOY................

: laugh:

It is not working. I've tried with both v31 and v33. This exploit is simply not able to gain root. This is the output of the script:
Code:
Select Code
Normal Mode enabled!

Pushing busybox....
4225 KB/s (1165484 bytes in 0.269s)
Pushing su binary ....
3830 KB/s (104576 bytes in 0.026s)
Pushing Superuser app
5559 KB/s (2139595 bytes in 0.375s)
Making busybox runable ...

Now unlock your device and confirm the restore operation.
Please look at your device and click RESTORE!
If all is successful I will tell you, if not this shell will run forever.
Running ...
Successful, going to reboot your device in 10 seconds!
./RunMe.sh: line 222: wait: pid 10 is not a child of this shell
Waiting for device to show up again....
./RunMe.sh: line 225: wait: pid 10 is not a child of this shell
Going to copy files to it's place
mount: permission denied (are you root?)
You can close all open command-prompts now!
After reboot all is done! Have fun!
Bin4ry
As you can see the mount command fails because there is no root.

I got the same results although the pushing numbers were different (I used v33) - I even tried modifying the script to use the native Fedora 19 x86_64 adb but got the same errors again on lines 222 and 225 and had the mounting problem . .

I tried to reply on the original posting where the utility was announced but Google had problems getting to the page . .

Anyone else made any progress?

Thanks,

Phil.

This works! Using the new standard root method in the V33 I eventually got root. It took a few tries and spit out some errors during the process but I'm now able to freeze a bunch of system apps that are bogging this tablet down.

Thanks AmarilloTX!

Default Hey Amarillo

I saw your review on amazon in regard to the Hannspree 13.3 tablet, I was wondering if this method you have outlined here is suitable for the hannspree as well...if not then any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yea BTW I love the Hanns 13.3 tab it's awesome!

UPDATE: I found a website called oneclickroot.net
These people offer rooting service for $29.95, the best part is it's 100% guarrantied to work and you don't have to send your expensive device out to some stranger...they do it remotely from your PC so you can get your device rooted while sitting comfortably in your home! I'm not going to lie when I say I was VERY sceptical however I decided to give it a shot and they did a great job (took them about 20 min). So to make a long story short, if you want your device rooted or jail break (in the case of apple devices) this is a safe and guarrantied way of getting it done...best 30 bucks I ever spent!
