Default Update galaxy s4 (google play edition rom)?

So I have 4.4.2 on my galaxy s4, but I am wondering about something, Let's say a new android version comes out... I have custom recovery so I wont be able to use OTA update... Will I have to wipe everything to flash an updated rom?

For best and error free results it's always good to do a full wipe
which includes "Factory Reset", wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache,
wipe data and wipe system before flashing any new or updated
roms or firmware.

Good luck!
Have a great day, enjoy!

Don't forget it takes less time to click the "THANKS" button than to type "thank you".
(unless you type very fast).
