Recently Google have been making all their icons use a 3D or box style
https://play.google.com/store/search...3AGoogle%20Inc.
(The most obvious being Search and Plus)
Is there a generator like the UI utils/ADT one to create these from 2D icons?

Thanks

You can try to use Android Asset Studio.
Sorry, I don't have enough posts for posting external links, so google "android asset studio launcher icon".
Upload your image and select SQUARE option.
