Default Google Now Launcher. What you need to know.

I came across this article explaining the Google Now Launcher. If you're interested, this is quite informative.

Hmmm, I DL'd the apk. com.androidlauncher.apk.whatever and moved it to /data/app set permissions correctly and wiped caches and rebooted. Can't find any trace of the launcher.
Anyone know what I'm missing?

Can you find it via file explorer then open it?

I wanted to try it out, but my EVO LTE says "Problem Parsing Package."

Oh well. Not a big deal.

From the article: "Transfer the file (from pc) then use a file browser to open the apk. Once that's done, navigate to settings>home and select Google Now Launcher as the default.

Edit: I successfully downloaded the file, on my phone, located with file explorer, clicked to open, had to allow apps from unknown sources, and selected it as default launcher.

Perhaps, in security settings, allow unknown applications.

Update:
Where I successfully installed this on my rooted device, I get the parse error on my stock, unrooted device.

Why not just get it from the play store again? https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...droid.launcher Just saying that will probably work better if available in your play store like it is mine...

Edit: may need a 4.4 ROM in order to do so.

The one in the play store requires Android v4.4 - you will get a message saying not compatible with your device if running 4.3 or earlier.

Also, if you download the modified APK that does work on 4.2 ad 4.3, it will indicate you need a newer version of google search, even if you have the latest version already downloaded.

There was an older version that was modified to work with the Nexus 4, but the version is so old that the feature set isn't worth the switchover vs the default stock Sense 5.0 experience, at least IMHO.
