I had a look at the two versions of the source tree and found a couple of interesting items. The first is that the WWE kernel appears to lack MHL support

Also f_projector.c exists in AT&T source tree and not in the WWE one.
I also noticed that there were diffs related to power management and suspending
. I have observed hard crashing when powering off before and this may be related. See the following snippet from the AT&T source.

The AT&T source tree seems to be the slightly newer of the two. It is the one that people have been customizing and that is probably for the best.
