Default Stupid notifications. Why do they do this?

Why is it that, contrary to every other phone I've ever had, the notifications on the M7 play through the speakers and headphones? And is there a way to make it only play through the speakers when I'm unplugged, but only through the headphones when they're plugged in? This is getting seriously annoying.
I won't ask for money, but if you feel like it, I won't turn it down. I've been out of steady work for over two years. My paypal donate thing is on the side there if you feel like.
Current -
HTC One (M7) (Viper, rooted, s-off, unlocked, TWRP, xposed, Project ERA 16.2)
Previous -
HTC One S on T-Mobile (stock, rooted, s-off, unlocked, TWRP, xposed)
HTC Droid Eris (Too many roms, before s-on was a thing, CWM recovery, before xposed)

Did anyone know if this is something that can be changed or not?

Sent from my HTC One M7 in your mom's room.
