Default Need help for adding another ROM feature to my own cm build

OK,
I guess the title says it all, I'm new in android development.
I built cyanogenmod from source for both my nexus 4 and 7
Now I would like to add the slim recent feature to my build.
I searched over the net but didn't find much about that.
A step by step walkthrough would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

You might want to start with some better documented changes.

But if you want to apply the slim changes you're going to have to find all the related commits on Github and cherry pick them.
Cherry picking is rather well documented. So you can find that with Google.

What would be easier things to try first?

Just things that already have a tutorial. I thought Linaro had one for example.
