MAP and bluetooth on 4.4.2, screen timeout

I have been reading that KitKat 4.4.2 was to have better MAP (Message Access Protocol) than other versions of Android. I am currently running Beanstalk 4.4.225 and I was running Cyanogen 4.4 and both have the same problem. I use the Ford SYNC with MyTouch system in my Focus ST. Well now I never get a text message, with 4.3 I did. I also get a Bluetooth connection request every single time I get in my car. I even click the radio box for "Don't Ask Again" and it still asks me every time. So with 4.3 my text messages would show on my screen and I could listen or read them. No I get nothing, at all.

Also the screen timeout defaults back to 15 seconds every time I swap batteries or reboot. Real PITA.

Should I just swap back to 4.3?

Thanks for any help.

Delete the pairings on both devices. Reconnect.
