How To Close Individual Prior Apps?

I can see the previousIy opened ones in tab style and cannot seem to find a way to individually close one. The X at the top of the screen closes all the apps. Is there a way to do it?

Just flick the individual apps away from the screen your on

Geez! I tried doing that first off but not correctly because it kept bringing up the app. Duh!
