Default [Q] Poor Audio Quality & LPA

Edit: A factory reset fixed it. Thanks anyway!

Hey XDA,

When I first got the M8 I was blown away by the sound quality. Much better than the G2. Convinced me to stay with the phone.

Then after root, s-off, other tinkering, the headphone audio quality sounded worse. Way worse. Vocals sounded like they were dampened by a thick blanket. The soundstage narrowed towards the center.

Installing V4A did nada, so I eventually tried setting LPA decode to false in the build prop. Day and night, it was back to the original amazing quality.

So my question: Did I just get a bunk phone? Besides the lowered power drain, are there any advantages to LPA? Does this reasoning even make any sense?

Thanks!

Low Power Audio setting in the build prop. Viper 4 Android asks you to disable it after install.
