The New DOOGEE DG550 was announced few month ago and after long delay if was finally last month. I know that many buyers jump the ship
and got other smartphones instead, since I have promised you a review I kept my word and bought this device a month ago from Banggood and received it after 13 days
I was very happy - it's very beautiful device.

I have also made custum CWM recovery for it vie MTK DroidTools + MIUI ported Rom -you can download it from NeedRom:
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/cwm-for-doogee-dg550/

Hardware
  • OS: Android 4.2.2
  • CPU: Mediatek MTK6592 1.7Ghz Octa-core
  • GPU: Mali450 700MHz
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM / 16 GB Storage
  • External Storage: MicroSD up to 32GB
  • Screen: 5.5” HD (1280720) display
  • Rear-facing Camera: 8MP with1080p video at 30fps
  • Front-facing Camera: 2.1 MP with 480p video
  • Wireless: Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 a/b/g/n
  • Battery: 2600 mAh (removable)
Full Specifications:

Appearance and build quality:

The DOOGEE seems well built, feels solid in hand and looks really good, on the sides it's real metal stripes that contribute to the premium appearance.

On the top you got the microUSB port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

On the right its the power button - doesn't feels loose.

On left it's the volume rocker -doesn't feels loose.

On the button ther is only the Mic- there is no stereo speakers- its fake.

The back of the device - you can see the microSim and regular Sim slot+ microSD slot.:

Actual device weight- 185.9g

Size comperrison VS iPone 4:

Little problem that I have found while using the smartphone in dark room- the capacitive buttons back-light bleed :

In realty it less obvious.

Call Quality and Speaker:
The call quality is average among this Chinese smartphones in the same price range but I must say that JIAYU F1 receiver has better sound with more Bass to it, the speaker is loud enough but lakes deep sound- it's more metallic sound.

Android "4.2.9"
Then funny thing with some Chinese brands is that they sometime "Develop" their on android versions -this time it's 4.2.9
DOOGEE DAGGER DG550 comes with android JB 4.2.2, some chines apps were pre-installed that I have deleted them after gaining root accses with Frameroot app .
The Ui is nice, and it smooth, DOOGEE has promised Android KitKat 4.4.2 update next month via OTA - hope they will keep up their promise this time.

Display:

DOOGGE DAGGER DG550 uses 5.5" 720P IPS OGS panel, the colors are vivid, great viewing angels and good brightness for outdoor use.
The touch screen is responsive and accurate-no issues like in DG350, I have no complaint about the screen &digitizer quality .
There is magnetic sensor on the front to support smart case - turn screen on & off when you open and close the flip case.

Camera:
The DOOGEE DG550 comes with 8MP OV8825 back camera sensor and 2MP GC2235 front camera sensor:
I was disappointing to find out that DOOGEE uses old 8MP camera for their latest 2014 flagship device, fortunately
the MTK6592 image processioning algorithms produce nice photos and I am pleased .

Here are some Samples images from the back camera- Click for 100% size:

_____HDR OFF_____________ HDR ON

GPS:

I have tested the GPS over 45KM trip- had no problems, the Firs fix can take up-to 30sec but afterwords the fix is fast and GPS performs OK.

Wi-Fi:
Wi-Fi reception is good and later I will add the Wi-Fi analyzer test results.

MTK 6592 Performance:

The MTK6592 OctaCore got really popular lately, replacing the good old MTK6589T and now we can find this OctaCore in devices under 200$!
MTK6592 offers really good performance in very affordable price, now you can find this SOC in smartphones under 150$ with free shipping!.
For 720P displays this SOC offers fluid experiences and lag free UI Transition Animation.

Antutu V5 Preview!

AntutuX:

Battery:
The DOOGEE DG550 comes with 2600mAh battery, it looks that the capacity rating is legit- it weighs 46.8grams:
Later I will add Battery Log.

Conclusion
THe DOOGEE DAGGER DG550 looks ike really nice device, it has great design, solid build, great performance and really nice 5.5" HD OGS display ,
I just wish DOOGEE used better quality speakers and it could be really great Smartphone.
My Score: 8/10 because of the Speakers quality and capacitive buttons back-light bleed .

So which is correct? Which do we believe?

Perhaps, one is optical and one is software interpolation specification?

Has anyone acquired this phone yet? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
I want to acquire one through banggood, and there isn't that much info so far

This device interests me as it can be had for 166 USD right now on presale, does anyone know the size of simcards it takes? I need at least one of the slots to be normal minisim not micro sim or nanosim.

The rest looks good and its nice and thin.

I'm on the fence between this and a thl t200c mostly because this is so thin and cheap, the t200 supports the sim size and frequencies I need but its almost twice the price, it also has a much better camera but there are no details about the dg550 camera yet.

Good phone
Hi.
Good Day.
Sorry for my bad english

Is it really a 13-megapixel rear camera? Or 8?
does it has Auto-Focus?
Does it has Digital-Compass?
Does it support Gyroscope & OTG & LED Notification?
Is the edges 6.5 mm? Or average body thickness?
Does the new series (which will be released in May) more efficient (In terms of quality & Features) than previous series? or similar?
Thanks...

I have pre-ordered a DooGee DG550 from GeekBuying, I'll be doing a video unboxing, review and rooting tutorial when I receive it.
