Default Camera Problems!

Hi all,

I have had HTC phones right from the XDA (1) and i've had all the different range. I must say that either i'm a slow learner or just a little stupid. I can't honestly think of why I always go for this line of phones. even to the point of having 4 different tele numbers in the last 6 years just to keep up (swapping between O2 and Orange more than a few times).

.....well, still have not learnt my lesson!

I had my M3100 the day it was released. even drove a 2 hour round trip to (parcel-line depot) to get it.

After playing with my new toy I found that the camera can cause a few problems with the phone. on all occasions I get one of three happenings (in equal measure)

1: the camera function takes the image and displays the image (as is normal)

2: the camera takes an image of nothing, complete blank (no i'm not blocking the the lens)

3: the camera takes the image and them closes the program rendering the camera useless.

I've done all the usual - resetting and hard reset. nothing helps and the phone has done this from new.

Orange have already sent a new one out - I get it tomorrow! I would like to know if this is a one off?

Why am i stupid - well because maybe i'm unlucky, but i have never had an HTC phone that has not needed to be returned at least twice!!!

It maybe because I get them as soon as they come out, or just, as i said, just plain bad luck.

still I've got another 25 days where Orange will replace with new.

will I need it?

Let me know if anyone eles has problems with their M3100 camera?

Default Camera Problem M3100

I also have the problem of taking images that are blank. The problem appears to occur less often at lower resolutions.

Is it a hardware or software problem?

The problem with blank/black pics can sometimes be resolved by removing the micros sd card, putting it back in and soft reset. It worked for me.
Good Luck

I had the same camera problems you have been experiencing (camera app crashing -> unusuable until next reboot) or taking blank pictures after a few successfull ones. I traced the problem to the Super Fine quality setting, having changed it into Fine I have not had a single problem with the camera application. Seems like there is a memory buffer overflow problem or something like that when using the Super Fine setting.

Anyway, I have not noticed any quality problems with the Fine setting compared to Super Fine, so this should solve the problem you have.

Thanks for that nAmCE. Just looked at my default settings on my varioII. It was set to 'Fine' and worked with no probs. Adjusted it to 'Superfine' and it resulted in blank picture, so have re-adjusted to 'Fine' and all's back to normal. Well done for finding that one out.

Thanks 4 the feedback. I was using 'superfine' setting. I've now changed to 'fine' and no problems so far.

Thanks again.

Thanks for help - now I feel a little bit guilty over the 2 other phones replaced by orange (must say excellent service when reporting a faulty phone, next day delivery of brand new phone with a new 28 day replacement warranty)

Still I guess Orange should test the system better as even the latest phone still does it. However, going into fine mode is ....fine!

Thanks once again!
