[Q] Maximum brightness (auto) with KitKat

Did the maximum brightness change? Used to be when using auto-brightness outside (very sunny), the brightness would kick up to 11.. (brighter then it would be if you used the slider..) I'm not seeing this behavior with kitkat..

Ever since the kitkat upgrade, I can barely see my screen outside! I use my galaxy note 3 on a bike mount, so this is a big deal for me

Anyone else noticed this? Any fixes that don't involve root??
