It usually make the read of picture in gallery faster. So , you no need to remove it

IT'S NOT ABOUT RECOGNITION OR
THE NUMBER OF THANKS YOU
RECEIVE, IT'S ABOUT THE
CONTRIBUTION YOU GIVE TO THE
COMMUNITY.

Haha... mine is 110 mb :P
the .thumbnails folder actually contains a small sized copy of all the images you have on your sd card. It is created by the Gallery3d.apk so that whenever you open the gallery you can see a small sized preview of your images without opening them.
You really can't get rid of it unless you delete the Gallery3d.apk from system/app

"Donít use a userís thanks count to judge their helpfulness Ė it is by no means an example of how helpful a user is. Many of the most helpful users on XDA-Developers do not have the largest thanks counts, rather they quietly help out where needed, and donít post when they have nothing to say."

I suggest you to use Quickpic it doesn't make the cache that much big. At least for me.
Press thanks if I helped you instead of typing it. Isn't it a lot more simpler!
