Help on Vario II

hi guys, got a few questions on the Vario II

i've read that any ROM from the wiki page can be used on HTC Hermes of any kind (ie Herm 100/200/300)...but seeing that the Vario II lacks the video calling button by the front, will flashing a Dopod ROM onto it screw up the key layout? Has anyone on this forum actually flashed a different ROM onto a Vario 2?

Also, how risky is this flashing business? I've flashed motorolas b4, but my latest experiment - USB flashing of a Nokia BB5 - busted my phone and hence i'm kinda flash-o-phobic now ops:

last but not least, can I still go thru T-Mobile to unlock my handset even though it was bought thru eBay?
