I've seen quite a few apps in the store that can put custom text on the glance screen by manipulating certain notification features, like putting an app in the detailed status box in the lock screen menu so it can display the date in the notifications area, but it usually disappears after a few minutes.

a better way in my opinion is to enter it into the custom box feature manually. Might be tedious to remember to do it everyday , but it doesn't disappear, and the text size can be customized, and be entered in any format (mm/dd/yyyy) you want.

this is just my insight. Do whatever you want. You may know about it or just haven't realized it yet. Just bringing it into the light as I believe it is one of those forgotten features.

The Lumia 520 does not have glance due to hardware restrictions , I'm sorry to say.
