I am currently on mf3. and on 4.2.2 but i would like kitkat as the current experience is rather sluggish. What should/can i do at the moment to obtain root and a recovery on a higher build of android. I would like to have aosp experience.

You can flash the stock MK2. Read "ODIN TO STOCK" section in All things ATT thread.

Root using saferoot. Install safestrap recovery 3.72.

Then follow Deadly Venom Kitkat Magic tool and install any ROM of your choice from the All things ATT thread.

Google Play edition rom also can be installed.
