I have my T-mobile Galaxy S5 that I love, but my buddy offered me his Sprint Note 3 for $175. It's in flawless condition. Now, I can root and install a custom recovery myself. The phone is bone stock right now. Will that unlock it so I can use it on T-mobile? I'm pretty sure it will.

Sprint note 3 does not have the necessary hardware to pick up T-Mobile signals. So it will not work no matter what you do in terms of unlocking. But still at 175 I'd buy it just to have a nice toy on hand

Yup. Or buy it and sell it if he wouldn't care.
