Default Please help!: What could cause massive battery drains?

this is not settings related i'm fairly sure....
My battery lasts maybe 4 hrs with moderate use.
Tonightit went from 40% to 0% in 2 hours or so with almost no use!
The only symtom I have is that often the back of the phone gets VERY hot when charging...and I think at other times also.
Anything device/system related that could cause it?
thanks!

Any software that may be updating OTA too often and draining the battery?

It could be a defective battery.

There has been a problem with PocketToday software draining the battery. That problem has been fixed btw.

Think it was the combination Pocketweather/Pocketbreeze from SBSH
Installing the newest versions solves the problem.

Have you checked to see if you had an active UMTS connection? That would most certainly do it.

I get about 4hrs of active use out of my Treo 750v, even though during the day it is checking emails every 10mins. I am reasonably happy with that. Battery life seems to be getting better as the battery is broken in.

Hi,

Along with UTMS, another classic is any sat nav software you have in use. You turn off the GPS receiver, hit the X button on the sat nav programme, but that only minimises it. It spends the rest of your battery hunting for a GPS unit that's turned off!

Well, Mine uses a lot of Power because of the Bad UMTS Receiption and therefore it always switches between 3G and GSM.

I wonder if it's possible to switch to GSM only mode as on my MDA Pro or other HTC devices.

Perhaps over the same registry key as it's possible on WM6 on the MDA Pro.

Does anyone have a hint on that?
T-Mobile SDA, o2 XDA Diamond Pro (HTC Touch Pro or Raphael), o2 XDA Cosmo (HTC S620 or Excalibur), iPhone 16 GB (v2.1)

I use the cingular version and its start>settings>phone>network(something likethat) click band selection> choose GSM
