Problems with a Trinity in Washington, DC?

I got my Trinity a few weeks ago and have been using it very happily in Los Angeles. I have yet to upgrade to the GPS-ROM (I am definitely a wimp) but I've been using a Bluetooth TomTom and it's sweet.

The problem...I arrived in DC on Monday of this week and the Trinity turned flaky. It connected to the 3G network (there none in LA yet) and downloaded some mail and then it just lost connection (everything; both phone and data). I powered off/on a few times and every once in a while it would connect for a minute or two (confirming it was connected to the 3G network and not GPRS) and then it would lose all connection again. I had to revert to my old MPX220. I suspected some hardware flakiness, but upon landing in LA on Thursday, it worked perfectly. I have not seen any mention of this type of issue in any forum or wiki on the Trinity.

Has anybody else seen this issue? Anybody know the answer?

You should have tried to set the phone to GSM only and see if the problem was due to a bad 3G network coverage in DC....

I tried this and no luck. I tired limiting it to specific bands, rather than auto...no luck. Am I misunderstanding?

Try replacing your SIM card. You need the 64K card if you don't already have one. I'm betting you probably don't. I had a 32K card and had network connectivity problems before Cingular upgraded the card. Now I have no problems.

I've got a 64k SIM.

Hi, Mark. How did you set up your Trinity to work with Cingular? I tried setting it up the same as my old 8125, but it tells me I can't connect with these settings.

Did you install a Cingular cab from somewhere?

P.S. Ah, never mind, I got the GPRS/3G working. But, if you know how to get Cingular's push email downloaded and installed, let me know.

Actually, Cingular has 3 64k SIM cards.

1) Plain regular old GPRS/EDGE one.

2) Newer UICC 3G SIM card.

3) Newest UICC-B card.

Stroll into your local Cingular COR store and tell them your problems- only you may want to leave out the fact that you are using a Euro phone. They should
upgrade you for free.

I went to the Cingular store and asked for a newer SIM. The salesperson confirmed that I had the older one and swapped it out immediately. He also told me the 3G network in LA is slowly being rolled out. My office happens to be under one of the new towers...so I'm in luck locally (and, I hope, in other cities as well)...it works now.
