Default WM6 Beta - My thoughts

I installed WM6 last night after CID unlocking my s620 hoping for the excitement that i had when had my HTC Wizard upgraded to PDA VIET's cooked ROM of WM6. I wasn't impressed enough to keep it, so i would like to highlight what i had found, which might repeat what others already know.

WM6 Beta Pros:
1. It is faster, it feels faster
2. New Microsoft Word, Excel edit capabilities
3. Press and hold the key and you will get the symbols instead of pushing the FN key to create !#$% symbols for example
4. All the other frills of WM6

WM6 Beta cons:
1. Because this is a T-Mobile ROM, and I am using it for Rogers, the additional customization for T-mobile is useless to me
2. The joggr has to be reset to use it as scroll instead of the volume function that the DASH uses - Reg edit will fix this
3. For some reason, as noted in another thread, the keyboard search from the home screen doesnt work right. Instead it acts like a phone keypad. For example searching for a name to call - key 2 acts like ABC insetead of E!!
4. SNAPIN issue - will send SMS messages to the UK, costs you international monies - fix is to delete the folder
5. Incompatibilities with Blackberry connect

I went back to WM5 and I will wait for a newer or cooked rom of this. ITs not worth it to me to flip to WM6. Being that i was using WM6 for a long time on my HTC wizard, this version of WM6 is way more inferior on the DASH/s620 than when it was put togetehr for the wizard.

My recommendation is to wait for another release.

While your PROS are legit, I have to disagree with your CONS.

All of the CONS you list are easily fixed with the exception of 3 and 5. Many don't use Blackberry and #3 is one small inconvenience for a leaked ROM IMHO. When you compare it to having Word, Excel, and Power Point, it's a good trade off. #4 is still not entirely fixed by deleting that folder. On Cingular I still get the junk text message when booting my phone. THIS is what ruined it for me. Since I don't know what's causing it, I don't fully trust it.

I also went back to WM5 to be fair. The s620 FW is stable as hell and very fast. I wouldn't use the standard T-Mobile WM6 ROM once it's released due to the crap they are putting on it. I'll wait for a generic like Dopod or HTC before I upgrade again.

Man I liked the native Word and Excel support. I can't wait...

Actually you ahve very valid points, and i agree the stock 405.4 ROM on the S620 is super fast. This is the way i see it.

HTC Wizard
WM5 cooked rom to WM6 cooked rom ==> HUGE IMPROVEMENT

HTC S620
WM5 stock 405.4 rom to WM6 beta ==> Minimal improvement.

THis thread was just to warn that its not really worth a great deal to switch from an already great ROM.

if it weren't for the SMS issue, I'd have stuck with it. I really liked the HTML email and the office apps.

But the official ROM is only a month or so away. If HTC releases this for the s620, it will be a great ROM...

I'm waiting for the official...

There are easy workarounds for the keypad, and Doc2Go doesn't allow you to edit Office docs (does it?).

Just create a template and do a "Save As".
