Default Battery problem??

Hi all!
I just got a MDA Compact II, but damaged, here is my problem:
Without a battery:
On the charger he turns on and shows the initial screen (some picture + IPL SPL GSM OS) 3 secs orange led coms on for a moment and device reboots,
no problem to put in bootloader ( 3 col + IPL SPL)
With a battery and charger:
after reset somtimes shows the same picture for a moment but without IPL SPL GSM OS, and go > off
no problem to put in bootloader ( 3 col + IPL SPL)
With a battery no charger:
off
somthimes screen blinks...

The guy who sold it to me sad that he was trying to change device language... and that happend.
I thing he interrupt a ROM change, and maybe somthing else??
Can it be battery damaged or wrong dll as i reed??
maybe is there a way to make my commputer to turn on a 5v in usb to act like a charger then bootloader>rom update?
Sorry for my english
Regards
Tom

its working now:
The problem was in the phone soft, as i write it i thing was interrupted ROM upgrade and MDA did not see a battery. No way to put in bootloader mode in USB cable on computter. So i take look on a battery: she hawe 6 connections 2 first and 2 last ar the + -. So i take a risk and connect battery from my SPV C500 (4 connect pins) to 4 middle pins on the battery conecton in the phone using the rubber to hold it , and WOW it camed ON. Next bootloader>T-Mobile ROM update...
And my phone is working now on the old battery, and thats intresting - the old battery was 70% charged!!
Maybe it help somone ))

Tom
PS. Sorry for my english
