You can do this as well, see this snapshot:

All you need for this is a registry editor and some details explained here.

Default BUMMER!

This app looks FANTASTIC....unfortunately there are some serious issues with WM6.1 on the i907/Epix. It seems as though we need a WM6.1 resource pack for 96dpi!!

Anyone have links to a new version of the 96dpi resource pack. The Epix looks FANTASTIC at 96dpi but it killed the phone app. I would love to run this if the 96 dpi pack were available!!!!

Default Registry Info

This guy posted an article with the registry information which I haven't seen before:

To change it, you need to open your registry editor and modify the keys LogicalPixelsX and LogicalPixelsY located under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Display\GPE\

http://www.pocketmagic.net/?p=115

I set mine to 96 and it does indeed work...so this must be what the RealVGA cab accomplishes. There are a lot of missing icons / resources which I suppose is what the larger cab is for.

I am not sure where to find new graphics and stuff but if someone had access to 96dpi graphics we might be able to build a new 96dpi resource cab....

Yes, you are correct, but in a very non-techie language.

Actually these two keys are read by the display driver (ddi.dll) and used internally for creating a buffer for the screen output. Of course you can shrink or enlarge the screen display at this level.

You can do video acceleration as well, but that's a different story.

Bottom line, my article shows how to change the resolution, with these two video driver parameters. No resource pack, nor other bells and whistles.

Is someone interested in an app to automate the procedure described in my article?

I can spare 5 minutes of my time, but only if someone would actually use it.

I would definitely have a look at it. It's so good to see somebody interested in going into further development with this RelaVGA soft, that helps doing good stuff with VGA devices (Acer N311).
By any chance, do you think you could have a look on how to make it fully compatible with WM6.1 and especially translation issue ?... (see my previous post)
Thx.

Installing the Realvga program + 96dpi pack on my i780 messes up quite a few things...

- Volume up down no longer works (seems to be some kind of select/down button now)
- Green phone button no longer pulls up contacts
- Contacts from start menu won't run
- Phone from start menu won't run
- Garbled soft keyboard

Looks like I have to learn to live with the garbled icons in the pointui menus until there is a new release for realvga.

Default RealVGA 96dpi working on EPIX

***UPDATE 12.03.08 NEW RESPACK INCLUDES POUTLOOK (threaded sms) ICONS***

I made a few adjustments to the 96 dpi resource cab for RealVGA so it can now work with the Epix. No more cprog.exe crashes and the Phone and Contacts work properly.

Still a little rough, as there are no icons for Domain Enroll and Task Manager, and the messaging icons in the inbox are slightly off...but overall it works great and lets you get the full effect of a 320x320 screen.

RealVGA along with HTCHome and HTC X-Button 1.5 make the device a lot more usable IMHO.

To get realVGA running on your EPIX:
1. Install respack96.cab on device (followed by reset)
2. Install RealVGA_11.cab
3. Start -> Programs -> RealVGA
4. Select 96dpi and UNTICK "Disable phone skin", OK (phone will reset)

After reset, I find it best to set the Today theme to Windows Default and set the screen font size to the middle setting.

Please note that I perform the above steps on a fresh phone i.e. following a hard reset...not sure it's necessary but I figure good to get 96dpi going when the phone is clean.
Attached Files
File Type: zip RealVGA_11.zip (8.1 KB, 2161 views)
File Type: zip respack96outlookfix.zip (1.95 MB, 3365 views)
