Default Preventing Hard-Reset

Hello Hello,

I just want to know if anyone has a method to protect against a hard reset.

I've been looking into a way to stop a thief hard resetting your device once they've stolen it.

This would mean password protection against the hard reset command in the settings menu and the hard reset using the softkeys and stylus.

Any thoughts?

No one else would like to password protect their phone from a hard reset.

Seems like an essential feature to me. Should be part of WM6 as far as i'm concerned.

All the security options at the moment are vulnerable to hard reset. Even installing cab to the extended rom is not a genuine answer.

Auto-install following hard reset can be easily bypassed.

If the phone was locked to prevent hard reset it would quickly and easily solve a lot of headaches.

Given that it's a function of the bootloader, not Windows Mobile 6, it can't be a feature of the OS.

Also, passwording the bootloader is almost impossible, there is no keyboard in the bootloader, there isnt enough space for that kind of I/O software, you'd need drivers for the touchscreen at the very least.

The best way to keep your phone safe is to keep it in your pocket, if it gets stolen, have insurance, if it's passworded they can't get your files, a hard reset deletes everything, don't keep anything personal on the expansion card.

If it gets stolen, call your provider, get them to lock out the sim, and get the replacement phone.

After you lose it, it's gone, what do you care what they do with it?

This is a pretty dead end subject, hence the lack of replies.

Passwording the bootloader is exactly what's needed. What a fundamental security flaw...I'm sure this will be rectified in future revisions.

Thank you for this enlightening insight. How you managed to think of that; mate, you are my bid for the Nobel Science Prize...just genius.

Only to those lacking in imagination...where there is a will there will always be a way.
