BIG difference. The "H" stands for HSDPA or High Speed Downlink Packet access. It is one of the 3G protocols but much faster than typical Edge networks (another 3G protocol).
Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Edge networks have a peak of 1Mb/sec with a more realistic 400kb-700kb throughput. HSDPA networks operate (at least here in northern california) at 7.2 Mb/sec. I believe I read somewhere that in Japan the HSDPA networks run at 14.4 Mb.
The Kaiser/TIlt is HSDPA capable, but AT&T has it disabled in the registry. The registry tweak to enable it has been done in your build. You can also achieve this by running Kaiser Tweak.
The other difference is that seeing the "H" pop up on my phone always makes me smile
