how to get a nicer 3G icon? i am using Helmi_C ROM and it features the old ugly 3G icon style , anyone got any idea how to change to the nicer ones used in the later ROM by Schaps, Dutty and many others?

You need to replace your shellres.96.dll file...attached is the one from my rom--but be forewarned it'll replace your busy icon with a black style one as well. Copy one from someone else's rom if this isn't to your liking...

Maybe I'm not thinking straight, but what "busy icon" are you referring to?

Also, my icon hasn't said "3G" since the AT&T factory ROM. Ever since I've switched to Dutty's ROMs, it's said "H." What's the diff, if any?

BIG difference. The "H" stands for HSDPA or High Speed Downlink Packet access. It is one of the 3G protocols but much faster than typical Edge networks (another 3G protocol).

Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Edge networks have a peak of 1Mb/sec with a more realistic 400kb-700kb throughput. HSDPA networks operate (at least here in northern california) at 7.2 Mb/sec. I believe I read somewhere that in Japan the HSDPA networks run at 14.4 Mb.

The Kaiser/TIlt is HSDPA capable, but AT&T has it disabled in the registry. The registry tweak to enable it has been done in your build. You can also achieve this by running Kaiser Tweak.

The other difference is that seeing the "H" pop up on my phone always makes me smile

The reason you H now and not on the stock ATT ROM is because by default ATT had the ability to jump to HSDPA speed turned off, you could only get 3g. With a simply registry hack, HSDPA is turned on and you get faster speeds (if HSDPA is available in your area). All the cooked ROMs have the reg hack already done.

First copy file to your MOB then copy it to windows

Then it will work... due the win-mob copy protection.
