Default AT&T Tilt and Vodafone Websessions: Europe on €14.95 per day

So following a couple of cases of awful AT&T sticker-shock after (foolishly) using my Tilt to briefly go online during two previous trips to Europe, I decided to do the necessary research and find a better alternative before leaving this month for my Christmas vacation to Germany.

1) First I called AT&T to request an unlock code, as described in this thread:

2) Then I followed the instructions on using Vodafone Websessions, as outlined in this blog entry by Martin Sauter:

There's also a good review of the Websessions services on msmobiles.com:

(Note: Martin recommends purchasing a Vodafone CallNow SIM card through Ebay.co.uk, but on Ebay.com in the U.S., all I could find was a Vodafone Callya card. Fortunately this brand works just as well for Websessions.)

3) Finally, upon my arrival in Europe this week, I spent three crazed brain-racking days trying to figure out why my Tilt and Vodafone SIM were not playing nicely together. Yesterday I finally tracked the problem down to AT&T's hard-wired proxy, which I was able to temporarily disable using the cabs developed on this thread:

Hope my experience helps someone else!!!
