I didn't upgrade directly from WM2003. I upgraded to the new Phamquang build from the Sanjay ROM, I think. I know for sure that I didn't upgrade to the new Phamquang directly from WM2003 because the new Alkor was the first ROM that I flashed from WM2003 and I never went back to WM2003. I used Chris's bootloader for every single flash I did, though, so make sure you use Chris's bootloader when you flash it. If your device gets stuck on "Clearing Data" on the initial Hard Reset after the Flash, don't worry. Just Soft Reset the device if it gets stuck on "Clearing Data" and then do another Hard Reset after the screen comes up from the Soft Reset and the ROM will boot up fine. The link to the website with Chris's bootloader is below and it's labeled "Bootloader for XP/Vista"

I flashed my ipaq 4700 to PhamQuang's 20764.1.4.3 rom
works well
but problem is I can not find the Contacts app.
in fact there is no addrbook.exe in windows
has anyone come across this problem
how can I resolve this?

I have Contacts in my programs. Maybe Contacts isn't showing up in your programs because it's on the Start Menu list?

There is probably some conflict with another app. on my device
because I hard reset and it worked,
then after restoring all my apps it disapeared again
which app could cause this.
never had this with other roms

The only thing that you can do is install them 1 at a time and see if it effects your contacts.

Does anyone have any experience of using any of these ROMs with Windows 7?

The MS web site suggests they should all be OK, but they would say that, wouldn't they?

flashing hx4700 on windows 7 rc is working fine, just need to install vista usb driver. Can someone post some mirror for that wm6.5 hx rom ? i cant find it anywere ;/

last month i broke my 4700's lcd and since then i have been using my wife's typhoon myguide 3500 ppc with built in gps. and since then i have realised that a 300 mhz cpu with half of the ipaq's ram can have better divx performance than 624 mhz cpu with wm6.1 .i dont want to be ungrateful to the rom cookers, and thanks for all the efforts, but that filesys.exe issue always criples this marvelous ppc. so i bought a spare hx4700 throug ebay, after having repaired mine, i am planning to downgrade my ipaq to 2003 se. should i know any particular trick before downgrading or if i just download the rom from hp and just click on the exe will everything be alright? thanks for any info.

thats the difference between QVGA and VGA which the 4700 is. i have never had any problems with the 4700 first using TCPMP and now Core player. i have played movies full screen on mine that were straight off the net.. 700 meg movies. no stutter etc... i am using sanjays v3 lite rom.......
