Default USB and Vista

Hi there,

I'm using a TYTN (from SFR v1605).

It used to work well when I was on XP but since I've upgraded to Vista, in most cases the USB connection does not work.
As seen on some threads here, I have tried to tick / untick the "advanced network" option in the USB to PC settings panel: sometimes it works (rarely) but since few days I'm not able to synch through USB at all.

I don't know what to do.

I'm able to charge the TYTN, but I cannot see the panel displaying "USB connection..." on the TYTN.
Also the TYTN is recognized from Vista (I see it in the USB ports) and I cannot see any specific error message in Vista, just the mobile device center says the TYTN is not connected.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

I had the same problem a couple of times. After a considerable amount of searching this forum, and other sites, I stumbled across a routine which fixed it for me.

With your TyTN connected by USB, on your PC/Notebook open up System Properties, Device Manager. You should find an entry, Portable Devices, showing the TyTn, It will probably have a yellow triangle with an asterix, showing that there is a problem. Right click on that and select Uninstall.

Then disconnect your TyTN and reconnect it. The PC/Notebook should then rebuild the USB driver, and everything should then sync.

Default HTC USB Sync with Vista

Thank you for your kind help.

I can see the HTC in the device manager, under mobile devices, but with no yellow triangle.
Anyway I've uninstalled it, and then disconnected and reconnected the TYTN.
It reinstalled the driver, but I still have no UBS Sync recognized on the TYTN.

Best Regards, Eric.

Two final suggestions from me.....

Firstly, ensure that you have the updated version of WMDC on your PC/Laptop. Mine is Version 6.1.6965.

Secondly, try deleting the existing partnership(s) on your TyTN. To do this, go to Start, Programs, ActiveSync. This will show you which partnerships are active. To delete them, go to Menu, Options, Delete.

When you reconnect your TyTN, it should set up a fresh partnership.

If this doesn't work, perhaps someone else out there could offer more advice.

Default Still not working

Hello Syd,

Thanks agaon for your kind help.
I've been travelling a lot these last weeks, sorry for the late answer.

I'm using the same version of WMDC as you.
I've also reset the partnerships.
It still does not work. Each time I reboot my phone it will loose the ability to establish the USB connexion with the PC. Fews days (sometimes weeks) after the connexion will work and I don't know why.

I'm sure this is linked with the phone, not the PC.

I've read somewhere in this forum it could be linked with the automatic time zone adjustment. I have the feeling it is linked with that, as my problems initially started while I was travelling in foreign countries.
I've seen somewhere that I should disable the automatic time zonbe adjustement, but I cannot find this option.

ALso, since I've created user defined alarm clocks, I have a very long list of alarms when I reboot the phone. I think some "events" are locking the phone, I just don't know how to fix it.

Maybe I should perform a full reboot, but I dislike doing it as I've installed many applications on my phone.

Thanks again for your help.

Best Regards, Erix.

Default advanced network

Yes, for sure I've tried this option.

Sometimes when I enable / disable this several times, it will eventually activate the USB connexion.
It used to be a workaround in the past, but it does work any longer.

A little bit like if there is a growing list of "events" which prevent the USB connexion from being activated. I really would like to understand what happens.

Are you using SP1 on Vista? If not, there is a USB update that you need to apply that fixes communication issues with USB devices and the host controller. I would HIGHLY recommend updating to SP1 ASAP. It makes Vista worth using.

If you are running SP1, I don't have any more thoughts other than replace the mini-USB cable. I actually had a bad one recently so it can happen.

No I don't use SP1. I let the system installing updates and fixes automatically, so I don't know whether that USB patch you mentioned has been installed or not. I'll have a look at it... I'll also install the SP1 ASAP.

Thanks for the tip.

It is not the cable, I've bought a second one to check, and it behaves the same... And sometimes it works.
