Default Jabra BT8010 - alter display name? (not caller id)

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the caller id name, I know there's another thread on that.

When I got my 8010 back in October I paired it, and my name showed up on the display. I assumed this came from the "owner information" I entered on the Athena since that was the only place I had typed my name in.

Earlier this week I finally got around to upgrading the radio (to 1.57) and in the process I reinstalled the factory ROM. When I paired the 8010, this time it showed "HTC_Advantage" as the display name. Odd, since I had put my own name in the "owner information", like before. I searched some registry keys related to bluetooth and don't see where this is coming from.

I tried pairing it again, and now the display name is completely blank.

So, here's the question: where does the display name come from so I can put it back the way I want it?

You're absolutely right about the origin of the pairing name,it
is derived from the owner info page.
I read on another of your posts that you recently reflashed
your Advantage and I did a hard reset after which the pairing
also read HTC_Advantage I had to reset the info but then it
still read HTC_Advantage until soft reset now it reads info name.

Still no-go for me. I verified my name in the owner information panel, deleted the pairing on the Athena and on the 8010, soft-resetted, re-paired, soft-resetted again and still I get a blank display name...

Try actually deleting the pairing from your phone. That's what works for me on my Titan when I want to change the display, but YMMV. You can also try flashing to a newer firmware on your 8010. When I updated to new firmware on my phone the amount of characters from the owner info line that would display dropped. That display thing is just to look cool anyway :)

Tried that, on both units. I may try to upgrade the 8010 this weekend to see if that helps. I think its still on verion 1.36 so there must be something newer now.

In my experience, the display on my bluetooth carstereo will show the device name (settings/system/about/id) unless I set owner information, then it will show the owner information
hope that helps

I have something set in settings/system/about/id, but of course even that was not showing on the Jabra display. But I did notice the description (just below the device ID) was blank. So I added my name there, deleted the pairing on both devices, and re-paired.

And my name was back on the display. So it seems to be pulling the name from the device ID > description! Can anyone else confirm that the description shows up on their device?
