Default 8525 works, but screen doesn't turn on!

I bought an 8525 used off ebay, with a broken screen listed as its only defect. I bought a replacement screen and installed it, but still no dice. I can plug the phone into my PC and it's accessible through Windows Mobile Device Center. It even let me upgrade the firmware to the official WM6 ROM. Still, no video.

I read in a thread here that if you plug in the phone to USB with no battery in it and a red light comes on, it means the hardware is OK, and with a battery in it if the light flashes red then goes black it means the battery is no good, and that the screen won't light in this circumstance.

So I bought a *brand new battery*, and plugged it into the phone--it still flashes a red light and doesn't turn on the green charge light, and the screen still doesn't light.

Can someone please offer some advice? Obviously the device itself works because it connects, syncs and takes software updates, but without a display it's as good as dead anyway. My new screen came with a new cable as well, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the problem.

Thanks!!!

Jason

From what you've described I don't think a broken screen was the only problem with the phone and that some of the internal electronics are defective as well.

I tend to agree, but I'm looking for a starting point to look at next. As I mentioned, the device works fine aside from the screen, so apparently there is something more, I'm just not sure where to look.

Thanks!

I had a problem with my LCD and tracked it down to a bung flywheel... I have no idea why that affected the lcd but I got a 2nd Hermes off ebay and replaced the flywheel off the old one onto the new Hermes as I liked the feel of the older flywheel better. This caused the new LCD to turn off too. I replaced the flywheel again and it worked... Have had no problems since...

Cheers...
