43 seconds in - looks like a lanyard loop to me on the right hand side of the shot (bottom left hand corner of phone)

Strange, on the video the hd indeed has a lanyard loop. My HD definitely doesn't have that loop.
Maybe because the video shows a pre release version of the phone?

I had the same question about the absence or presence of a lanyard hole in the Touch HD.
In the link posted above, one can see clearly that, at 46 sec., there is a hole left of the USB port.
But fdevogel, who has the English version of the HD already in is hands and lives, just as I do, in The Netherlands states there isn't such a hole in his HD.

In the English user manual I downloaded this morning also no lanyard hole was mentioned/drawn (in contrast to the Diamond where a lanyard hole was mentioned and drawn).

I really hope it does however: I use an electric wheelchair and it is almost impossible for me to use a phone without such a hole. At the moment I own a Diamond (with lanyard) and that works perfectly!

So, people: if it's correct that there isn't a lanyard hole present in the HD, I have a question for you.
Is it still somehow possible to attach a lanyard to the Touch HD (preferably at the bottom)? It's imperative for me I can do so, as explained above...

I hope my fellow forummembers can come up with a positive answer or solution!
Thanks in advance.

I have the WWE version and it definatly doesn't have a lanyard hole.

I'm receiving a NL version on monday/thuesday and will see if that one has it, but I doubt that other then the firmware there will be any difference between the 2 devices.

Hi

The early prototypes often seen on Youtube videos do indeed show a lanyard hole at the bottom left of the device.

The actual shipping version definitely does not have a lanyard.

I think it is incredible that the silly designers decided to remove this, I guess because they felt it ruined the smooth look!!!

When a device is hand held and costs a small fortune, and requires balancing in your hand and being jabbed and stroked, the chances of it being dropped are extremely high, and so the option of a wrist strap should be present. Anyone that has some form of disability and finds it hard to grip something will also need a lanyard option to save themselves dropping it.

I can't trust myself not to drop this at some point, so always use a wrist strap, so will not buying this.

In another stupid design decision the notification LED is on the top, so you can't see it when you have it flat on your desk in front of you.

Regards

Phil

Well, firsts of all, my UK version (WWE) I received (also in the Netherlands) does not have a lanyard hole. I don't need it, so won't miss it. But hey, you got me curious if there is room for one. I removed the back cover, but don't see too many places for a firm and safe approach. Easiest bet could be to make a small cut in the backplate and feed the lanyard under the lower one of the penposts - the brackets holding the styles inside. It might make taking the stylus in and out a little harder if not impossible, but shat could work.

My guess is though at the bottom would be the safest bet. The bottom part is so firmly attached, it'd need to be removed first and then holes etc drilled into it. As I have no intention on doing so, my advice stops here I'm affraid.

It is a wonderful machine, this HD, I like it a loooot better than my previes x500+.

Default Work Around

I really missed the strap hole on the HD too.
So I bought a CrystalSlip cover from Boxwave and with a hot paper clip, melted two holes on the bottom left corner.
I wouldn't swing it around by it but the plastic seems to be pretty good and should hold. Anyway it's better than nothing.
