Default Verizon HTC Touch Pro User Tips & Tricks v2.5 (12/21/2008)

Charger:
  1. The HTC Touch Pro has a extUSB interface to plug it in.
  2. A Normal miniUSB cable / charger will work to charge your phone.

Internal GPS:
  1. As of 12/15/2008 this does not work but does exist so we wait patiently for someone to hack it.

Internal FM Radio:
  1. As of 12/15/2008 this does not work and I am unsure if it even exists in the Verzion HTC Touch Pro.

Bluetooth:
  1. Jawbone II : good noise cancellation wonky charger
  2. Jabra JX10 : small light works well

Touch Flow 3D (TF3D):
  1. The Verizon TF3D theme has more things you can do in landscape, but to switch the clock to the stock flip clock (attached to this post) and makes the theme a little bit cooler.
  2. Manila Customizer can help you take off the top and bottom curtains to make your phone look a bit cooler also. Use the invisible items for top and bottom curtains.
  3. Change Background All Tabs can help you make sure that all the backgrounds on all the tabs in TF3D are the same.
  4. UITweaker can help you to edit how the task bars and the soft keys look and edit how the selection color is.
  5. Taskbar battery level color is pretty useful and cool, but this is a little more complicated to install you must install the sdkcerts.cab for it to work first and then the FInixNOverBatteryIconsOnly.cab
  6. tsowentaskbar : now I use this taskbar instead of the one above
  7. Take a look at what my phone looks like with these changes and remember that this is still the stock Verizon Wireless theme so it functions well on the Verizon HTC Touch Pro:

Themes:
  1. Customizing TF3D the Collection
  2. HTC Fuze Flip Clock
  3. MobileMatt FuzeBerry TF3D Skin
  4. Dirty Paper Theme
  5. Sprint Theme
  6. List of wallpapers

Today Screen:
  1. HTC Home : Good replacement for TF3D

Config / Hack / Tweak Tools:
  1. Diamond Hacks can do some basic tweaks and is useful for beginners.
  2. Diamond Tweak basic and intermediate tweaks works well
  3. Diamond TF3D Config will help you config and theme TF3D works pretty well, I don't use it except to move around the order of my tabs.
  4. Advance Config 3.3 not created specifically for HTC Touch Pro and for advanced users

Config / Hack / Tweak Things to Do:
  1. Great Page to Read with a lot of useful information
  2. List of registry edits
  3. One more list
  4. Create an SMS Shortcut to assign to My Button so that you can move easily from conversation to conversation with the keyboard.
    - on your pc, open Notepad and write: 42#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS"
    - Save as "Sms.lnk" (or any name, as long as the extension is "LNK")
    - Copy to your phone and assign to My Button

Software:
  1. PHM RegEdit : free registry edit tool
  2. Pocket RAR : unrar on your phone
  3. Total Commander : free file explorer replacement that allows you to change permissions and such
  4. Dashwire : sync all your information to a web site (makes it easy to post to facebook and whatnot)
  5. HTC FM Radio : not usuable yet but may be (need to find a link to this)
  6. Googlemaps : free maps and gps
  7. hTorch : flashlight using your flash
  8. Microsoft Live Search : free maps microsoft style
  9. HTC RSS Hub : for all things RSS (need to find a link to this)
  10. Skybook : free facebook app
  11. Skyfire : proxy style internet for when PIE and Opera Mobile can't do it
  12. HTC You Tube : for all things you tube (need to find a link to this)
  13. Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 : makes flash work in opera not in PIE (need to find a link to this)
  14. Palringo : free im client for all gmail aol yahoo.........
  15. Gscroll : neat utility for HTC Touch Pro to take advantage of the g sensor and the capacitive hardware buttons.
  16. PowerSMS : allows you to do some extra sms actions like group sms and scheduled sms.
  17. Lumos : Complete backlight replacement (basically it auto adjusts your backlight for you based on the light sensor)
  18. TouchLockPro : helps you not answer calls in your pocket

Software Lists / Sites:
  1. Blownfuze : has a great list of software
  2. Pocketnow HTC Touch Pro Information Great Page to Read with a lot of useful information
  3. Gsensor Applications and Games

Games:
  1. Bejeweled 2
  2. Broken Sword
  3. Resco Bubbles (gsensor)
  4. Simcity 2000
  5. Skyforce Reloaded
  6. SPB Arkaball II
  7. SPB Minesweeper II
  8. SPB Sudoku
  9. Spore Mobile
  10. Teeter (gsensor comes with the device)
  11. Tower Mogul
  12. Warcraft 2 (you're going to need to search for this one)
  13. Shadow of Legend : free MMORPG
  14. Seismo : neat gsensor app
  15. Lightsaber : umm starwars

Exchange / Outlook Info:
  1. Exchange 2003 will only do plain text emails, Exchange 2007 will do HTML
  2. Outlook / Exchange store contact pictures in compressed mode around 90px by 90px so if you want TF3D not to be blurry transfer the contact pictures to your phone and apply them their. By doing that TF3D will use the noneblurry noncompressed image and exchange will sync and compress the image itself.

Still Looking for Solutions to These Questions:
  1. The lag in switching from portrait to landscape or landscape to portrait I kinda fixed this a little by applying the TF3D tweaks and not changing the Verizon Theme
  2. Want accessories like an extra battery, dock with extra battery charging station
  3. Want to figure out how to turn off the charging lights and change the sms and email lights

I hope this helped at least one person.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I didn't make it very far down your list before i found one that i didn't know. I didn't realize that any mini usb plug can fit, that will save some money on accessories. First time HTC owner, ive always had Samsung so i was always changing my adapters.

Most of this information is from others in the community so don't take it as I am the absolute author, but I do not remember links to everything.

1. Normal mini usb chargers work to charge your phone I almost gave mine away before I found that out and I was angry that HTC made a proprietary plug but I guess I was wrong.

2. The Verizon TF3D theme has more things you can do in landscape, but to switch the clock to the stock flip clock (attached) and makes the theme a little bit cooler even though to my knowledge no one has edited it yet to make the colors cooler.

3. There are like 4 or 5 config / hack / tweak tools out there and they are as follows:
a. Advance Config 3.2
i. I uninstalled this as the others do everything this does and I find it messes things up
b. Diamond Hacks
i. This can do some basic tweaks and is useful for beginners works well
c. Diamond TF3D config
i. will help you config and theme TF3D works ok at best
d. Diamond Tweak
i. basic and intermediate tweaks works well.

4. Some software you probably want to find and install is as follows:
a. Diamond Hacks : free reg hacks tool
b. Diamond TF3D Config : free TF3D config
c. Diamond Tweak : free reg hacks tool
d. PHM RegEdit : free registry edit tool
e. Total Commander : free file explorer replacment that allows you to change permissions and such
f. HTC FM Radio : not usuable yet but may be
g. Googlemaps : free maps
h. Live Search : free maps microsoft style
i. HTC RSS Hub : for all things RSS
j. Skybook : free facebook app
k. skyfire : proxy style internet for when PIE and Opera Mobile can't do it
l. HTC You Tube : for all things you tube
m. adobe flash lite 3.1 : makes flash work in opera not in PIE
n. dashwire : for syncing your phone to the web turn off contact sync if you use exchange

TF3D Stuff:
1. TF3D can be slow but if you do all the reg tweaks others talk about it will be pretty fast and manageable so do them
2. Pictures in favorites seem blurry if there resolution is too great so make sure they are 640x480 if possible

Exchange:
1. Exchange 2003 will only do plain text emails, Exchange 2007 will do HTML

Random things I am still working on finding solutions for:
1. better way to move around SMS conversations
2. the fact that the phone wakes up when a call comes in so you answer it when pulling it out of your pocket even if you don't want to
3. The lag in switching from portrait to landscape or landscape to portrait

OK so that is my verizon experience hope that helped at least one person I will edit this as I think of more.

Would you be able to explain what you had go wrong with it?

Also anyonw that's got advise for settings that made your device run better should post them.

THanks,

I didint post the topic but I can tell you my expereicen with 3.2 and 3.3. I wouldnt say it screws thisng supo but sometimes you do get some unintended consequences.

I think people dont realize that playing around with Glyph Cache, File System cahc, etc can have NEGATIVE adverse effects if not done smartly. I woudlnt recomend this app to NOOBS. Its a great app for Power Users!

Otehrwise, GREAT collection! I am working ona revision to my R5 ROM. I will put some of these tweaks in.

I dont have any tweaks but I do have a fully working kitchen and ROM that you could add to the main post ;c)

I almost wonder if VZW users could have there own board? Maybe a sub category from RAPH CDMA?

Do you think the Mods would do that? Is it worth it?

I dont see how it could hurt. It is hard at times to weed through all the post to find VZW posts. Maybe a sticky would help? i dunno but i do like your suggestion of a sub category

Yeah a mini usb will fit, just make sure the widest part of the mini usb plug is closer to the mic. I would take a picture for you but sadly my TP is my old camera.
