Default Blocks (squares) instead of text on x7510 and OS problems

Hello,
In some GUI dialogs on my x7510, the text is rendered as squares or blocks rather than letters. This is most apparent in the Opera browser settings screens. Any assistance to help fix this would be great.

Also my x7510 locks up quite often. It will get into a mode where I cannot get back to the main HTC home screen even if I press the home button on the front bezel. This has happened in several programs (exchange email, Opera browser, and Wifi settings) Soft power off also does not help. I have to do a device reset to get the machine working again. If anyone has a fix or suggestions for this issue, please let me know.

Another odd thing that is happening to me is that the weather panel of the HTC home page will not update via AT&T HSDPA or edge. I have to be connected to WiFi to get the weather data to update. Anyone have suggestions to fix this?

I am running the latest version of the WWE OS that I got from the cmonex sticky:

CE OS 5.2.19217 (build 19217.1.0.6)
Rom version: 3.29.707.3
ROM date: 07/18/08
Radio version: 1.58.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.91.7020.20H
ExtROM version: 3.28.709.102
Model No.: ATHE400
Platform: PocketPC

Also, since flashing the above ROM on 12/25/2008, I have not installed any additional programs. I still have these issues with the ROM as installed clean.

Thank you in advance for any help!

There is no fix for this but to revert back to the original stock ROM. It all started when you installed a new one right?

Default Stock ROM also had issues

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

The stock ROM also had all of these issues. I waited to post until I was able to flash the newest ROM from xda-developers.

The blocks are annoying but I can live with them. The lockups are making the system kind of unusable.

My original config was this:

x7510 shipped:

CE OS 5.2.19209 (build 19209.1.0.2)
Rom version: 3.27.405.3
ROM date: 05/28/08
Radio version: 1.59.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.91.7020.20H
ExtROM version: 3.28.709.102
Model No.: ATHE400
Platform: PocketPC

I keep my systems very plain and I avoid adding front ends until I feel sure that the bare OS is stable.

I suppose I could uninstall these items:
Opera
Google Maps
GPS Test

and give it a few days.
The new WWE ROM 5.2.19217 (build 19217.1.0.6) had Opera and Google Maps installed as part of the ROM iimage.

Default How to load EXT ROM?

Christian,
I noticed that your config and my original config are the same except for the Ext ROM:

You have: 3.27.405.104

A) How do I get my hands on that ROM?
B) How do I load it into my x7510?

I would like to try the same configuration that you have on your x7510 since you have no lock ups.

What does the Ext ROM do anyway?

Thank you,
Jonathan

Mine came pre-installed. I have not changed anything on mine since I bought it.

A) I don't know how you can get a copy of my ROM. I assumed you already had a way to revert back to the original ROM before trying out the new ROMs.

B) I don't know. Sorry.

YES, I am perfectly happy with the stock ROM. No freezes and does the job as I wanted, not to mention, I already have a ton of applications installed. I have filled 6MB of the flash disk with applications, about 150 of them or more. 50 of them are games, the rest are a lot of references.

I believe the Extension ROM installs the Phone settings for the different carriers around the world, and Google Map application.

Default Chinese

I believe your Opera is a Chinese version. Mine came that way as well. All of my install disks were Chinese too. The squares you see are your device not recognizing the language. I installed a beta version of Opera (9.51 Beta build 1718_a). This got rid of the "square boxes". The only issue I have with it is upon exit Opera switches my device to "portrait" mode (a minor issue compared to the boxes). There is 9.52 Beta version of Opera that I have not tried yet as well. Anyway Opera is very usable now and I can change settings.
