Arrow Herm100 used in australia

My Hermes(imate jasjam) was previously used on the telstra network but I suppose because it wasn't updated at the time, I presumed, had problems with the nextG 3G network in terms of receiving a strong enough signal.....I've since got rid of the testra rom and installed a different ROM and Spl....my RGB screen now reads:
HERM100
IPL-1.04

HERM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro

But no mather what simcard I put in it...the signal keeps droping.I've tried vodafone and optus and it still has a very weak signal.....Is this a hardware or software problem?Should I try the Radiocodes too?It sounds like another fight against the windmills.......
Please hit me up with some suggestions....I am very very frustrated!!!

Check your radio version, go to settings>system>device information.
I'm with Telstra and I use 1.54.30.10 as it seems to be the best reception for me. I did notice however when I went out to Dubbo that the signal was weak and drained the battery fast. This is normal but a pain, in Newcastle theres no problem.
Location could be the problem too.....

Cheers...
