Default Built in IM

Does the programs run on SMS, or just off the network?

I believe that the built-in IM app will use the network connection when you are connected to WiFi, but will only use SMS when you are relying on cellular coverage.

Dave

That's somewhat right. Google Talk uses data connection or wifi. The rest is cellular, counts as text messages.

I can tell you for certain that the IM app can use WiFi for at least MSN.

I have a UK SIM card, and if I try to sign into MSN on the built-in IM app when I am not connected via WiFi it complains that it cannot read my phone number from the SIM card. When I'm connected to a WiFi network, there are no such issues.

Regards,

Dave

I get the same error with AIM, but I am on t-mobile. I think its because I don't have the "G1" internet package.
