Default htc and utstarcom battery identical?

I am looking for an extended battery for a recently acquired Mogul and have my research into the various kinds.

Won't go with cheap Chinese generics or expensive Mugen and Seidio but the OEM extended batteries seem a real bargain now, between $16 and $22 with cover on eBay.

One states a spec fo 2100 vs 2200 and one is branded HTC while the other is UTstarcom. Are these basically the same battery?

thanks

UTStarcom is a trade name for HTC devices. It'll be the same.

But beware buying old batteries (over a year might be okay... two is pushing it). Lithium-ion tech degrades with age, even if it's stored at the proper charge and temperature.

That's not entirely true.
I happen to have an extended UTSTARCOM battery in my Mogul and it works perfectly.
Just make sure you get the correct model number.
The one I have is BTE6800SB and it came with the fat back cover.

The Sprint Mogul PPC6800 XV6800 2100mAh Extended Battery includes a Dark Silver Extended Battery Door, which is necessary to accommodate the larger battery size. This battery is a factory original item, made to meet or exceed the highest standards of quality and performance.

Sprint Mogul PPC6800 XV6800 2100mAh Extended Battery (BTE6800S) Features:

* Includes a Dark Silver Extended Battery Door to accommodate larger battery size

Compatible with:
Sprint Mogul PPC6800
HTC 6800
Verizon XV6800
The description clearly state it is for a HTC Mogul 6800 and is factory OEM. The picture shows a UTstarcom battery and a back for the larger battery in the correct dark gray color. I believe the model is BTE6800S.

He said he warrants the battery for 90 days, far longer than most on eBay, so it gives me plenty of time to charge the battery a number of times to determine if it is 100%.

I've searched around but not found much in the way of rapid wall chargers to shorten the time to charge up the larger batteries. I see some have higher voltage and speak of some sort of chip to regulate or manage charging.
Any ideas on the specs and type?

The OEM extended battery arrived today. Cover is far darker than the stock case and the ring around the camera lens fell off. Will post a note to the vendor to request another.

I made a profile sketch and a couple pics showing how thick it is. It is about twice the thickness as the original battery.

I started to quantify the amount of current the phone draws under various conditions. With this data, one can more precisely derive an estimate of the amps used for a given user's usage pattern, then derive size of the extended battery. Look for another thread for details.
