Special thanks to Spiked Software Coding blog (user japanfred) who mounted a dedicated FTP server to host our files (Great coding blog BTW, you should drop by, take a look and click some links to help him keep the fast FTP up) It goes down for maintenance from time to time, but we should ALL BE GRATEFUL and click the add links inside from time to time

30 MARCH 2009: PANELS TESTING ON R2A UK and NAM ROMs

  • New R3A Panel Manager -> Tested OK, but must install ActiveX Deployment first !!! This is the english version but will install OK into any other language (not guaranteed to work)
My opinions: faster transitions, better animations, smooth, and best of all: YOUR LAST ACTIVE PANEL IS AUTO LOADED AFTER A SOFT RESET: DEFINITIVELY WORTH UPGRADING
BUGS: Since this new panel manager comes from an english ROM, I have tested it ON ENGLISH ROM ONLY. I have seen occasional freezes and the taskmanager "x" button disappears from some panels - INSTALL IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
  • On the road PANEL -> Tested OK, ActiveX Deployment and new Panel Manager are not required
My opinions: GREAT panel with big finger-friendly buttons for GPS, phone, mp3, etc when "on the road"; A MUST !!
  • CNN PANEL -> Tested OK, requires ActiveX Deployment and new Panel Manager
My opinions: Gives me weather and handy news, cool interface and fast animations; Bye bye TF3D !! (my last missing from TF3D was the weather tab)
  • Growing PANEL -> Tested OK, requires ActiveX Deployment, new Panel Manager not required
My opinions: Sort of "3D fishes" but beautiful, colourful and meaningful: every bug/plant means something from battery level to wifi signal strength, missing calls or new emails etc. Great chick-magnet and relaxing screensaver, I even kept it as my default panel by the time being; YOU'VE GOTTA CHECK IT OUT !! Cons: battery sucker (mostly because you'll love it so much you'll keep the screen turned on more time )
  • New Media Xperience PANEL -> Tested OK, requires ActiveX Deployment and new Panel Manager
My opinions: Radio ncluded, greatly enhanced, faster transitions, pics displayed lightspeed, loads my 800 mp3 in a breeze and even adding album art (thumb cached ??) GREAT IMPROVEMENT OVER R2A !!

EDIT 02 APR 09:
ALL R3A PANELS ARE NOW WORKING OK OVER R2A ROM:
STABLE, ZERO FREEZES, VERY SMOOTH AND FASTER THAN PREVIOUS VERSION
No resets after 24 hours of intensive use, switching between panels very often

CONS: "x" taskmanager button is missing in some panels
(don't know if this is a real "bug" or normal behaviour because the "x" button was also missing in the original 3D Fish panel and other panels)

Enjoy

I have added the most recent testing information to post 2

So far I have installed the new panel manager, CNN panel, on the road panel, growing panel and the new Media Xperience panel on my stock ROM Xperia and all is OK

Zero problems after 1 day of usage

I compiled the CAB with hardcoded paths intending to completely override the previous version (it will be auto-uninstalled) to avoid conflicts, and seems to be working fine

I'll upload the new MXP panel too, but only when I finish testing its stability over R2A

Yep, just make sure you install the SE Flash Deployment cab.

You ever going to upgrade your nav panel? I love it and would love some new features.

Hi gtrab...do you think there's a chance to upload and get our hands on the R3A ROM?

Full R3A ?? I guess not, unless somebody translates it all, file by file
But in the mean time I am still working on some more good chunks and bites from R3A

Regarding panels,
- Added more panels, including the official Sony Ericsson "on the road" panel, improved from the previously leaked one
- Added a small opinion of each one into the second post, and it's test status over R2A ROM

Now the library has more that two dozen panels
If you find more panels around, please help me to keep it growing and updated

I'd suggest "device"
Your Xperia has enough internal memory to handle whatever you throw at it
- Everything will definitively work faster from the internal memory
- Installing to internal memory avoids any possible bug/problem
- In the end, these are relatively "small" apps and won't consume too much memory (a couple MB is nothing compared to TF3D's > 40 MB space-hungry requirements)

Ok installed Active X Deployment, then the other 2 applications(new panel manager, growing panel) got them installed....but the panel does not show in panel manager....shrugs....

Found out by default it does not show...you have to go to settings....click on one of the blank spaces with the suitcase looking icon...and select the growing panel....

Xperia Tweak Panel option doesnt work with the new panel manager.
