Question Google ION

Ok, managed to snag one of the Google ION devices. First time on Android OS after making the jump from the iPhone, and to be honest, its a pretty good experience. Android FTW.

I got a quick question about the file system. I can mount the SD Card and transfer files to and from my MAC to the FONE, but I want access to the wallpaper folder to stock that with some custom papers that I made.

How do I access the system folders, this fone should be rooted.

Thanks for reading

Just copy your pics to a folder of your choice on the sdcard. From home screen press menu -> wallpaper -> select Pictures or Wallpaper gallery. You can crop your images here too.

I put my wallpapers in my sd card \DCIM\wallpapers folder. Then I can access it via Pictures when changing wallpapers.

There is also an app on the market called "Backgrounds" with tons of pictures in categories, it's free. Kinda handy when you want a change.

Just got me one of these Ions from the conference. Am I right in thinking it has root access as standard out of the box?

No it doesn't. You have to get it rooted.

LOL Thought that sounded too good to be true - No worries I've found the rooting stuff for Haykuro's Rom.

Is it best to start with that ROM to get root before playing around with other ROMS? and does anyone have any recommendations on most stable ROM with least glitches (Not really bothered too much about speed, but need it to work well and be stable really)

Phone is a HTC Magic from the Developer Conference - I/O google?

Default Google ION not rooted

Google ION is not rooted... NOT ROOTED... it has an Engineering SPL that will let you flash different roms... in orden to get root you have two choices...
1) Install a rooted rom (you don't have to install the SPL), i tried Haykuro's rootme rom and it didn't work the phone was in a bootloop... didn't wipe, so maybe that's the problem...
2) Make a nandroid backup booting a recovery img (i used haykuro's), take the boot.img and unpackit... unpack ramdisk, set ro.secure to 0, repack everything, fastboot boot to see if it works propertly and if everything goes ok you can flash it... is a simple process... i did it in linux and that way i didnt have to wipe my phone or change the rom which i really like.

Original Google ION (Rooted)
