Help, I dont understand (HTC Ion)

So i was told to root my phone, however when i press the down volume key and power it takes me to a white screen with the adroids guys down on the bottom. Does this mean i dont have to do the rooting procedure and just go ahead and install the rom i want? And also how do i install a rom. Thx

you dont have root..the htc ion comes with engineered bootloader so you can flash other roms onto it but you wont have root access..to get root access just follow this ..http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.ph..._Rooting..then i suggest flashing the superhero v2 rom..it has flash player and multi touch
