No OTA for HTC Magic, how?

My HTC magic does not feature "Over-the-air" update. How do I update my firmware if there exist one?

If Google releases next version of the Android OS, will my HTC magic be able to upgrade without hacking? Or only next generation android phone is eligible for the upgrade?

If it's HTC Branded you will get a download on htc's homepage,
if it's google branded, I have no idea

will probably just have to wait until an actual update surfaces
or start using custom builds I presume...

Thanks. Even for updates of the android OS? I am getting a bit unclear, please help to verify whether what I say below is correct.

"Google supplies new OS updates to either the Operator/HTC, and they will customize it and release it as a firmware to the consumers. My one is HTC branded, as such update will arrive from only 1 avenue, and that is HTC."
