You should update your radio and spl whether its hard spl or the new spl. If you do the new spl make sure your device can handle it and you do the radio first. Then you can update to whatever rom you want. You can skip the rc33.

You want to update your radio first. You find the radio by hitting menu on home screen > settings > about phone > baseband version. But since you just rooted and your on rc30 I know for a fact you don't have the new radio. You can find the newest radio and spl here http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/

Once you updated your radio you can install the hardspl or the new spl which is also in that link. The new spl is required on the hero builds. To make sure you can install the new spl turn your phone off and turn it on by camera + power. If it says you have a PVT board then your good. Just remember to install the new radio FIRST. And when you install the new spl make sure you have a card reader to load your rom or a spare sd card with the rom you want on it (update.zip) because when you load it, it will overwrite your current rom and your phone will not boot but its not bricked.
