Default aNetShare + T-Mobile = Fail?

I've noticed in more recent builds of Soulife's Rogers ROM that the aNetShare app (which, according to the developers isn't available in the T-Mobile US app market), won't properly turn my phone into an access point anymore.

I know for a fact that it has worked in the past. I think the last time I used it successfully was with JF's 1.43 build.

Has anyone had any luck with this app and a Hero or Rogers ROM? Or anything cupcake for that matter?

I favor this app over Wifi Tether for the simple fact that you can see and filter out users easily so that you can have a (somewhat) secured connection.

TIA

Looking for a free place to host your ROMs? Maybe a place to store ROMs you like so you can get to them easily?

As a matter of fact, you can also enable WEP security in WT4R, which while not completely crack-proof, actually provides some real security. Also, WT4R can tether via Bluetooth, which consumes less power than Wi-Fi. This allows the phone to consume less than the 500mW provided by USB, meaning your battery will not deplete while tethered.

Of course I haven't even mentioned one of the most important differences (especially for a root app): WT4R is open source.

Agreed with all the people pimping WT4R - it's a slick program, can't think of anything else I need in a tethering app. Access control, view connected clients, use WEP encryption (ok, so WPA would be good - but WEP is better than nothing), use Bluetooth. Can even share the WiFi link via Bluetooth, which might be handy for sharing WiFi to a friend's non-WiFi phone.

Searching for tether in the market returns nothing for Wifi Tether for Root Users. Do you have a link?

I'm pretty disappointed with the quality of the market search function, you know, being as Google is a search company and all, and approx 3/5 apps I search for don't return, even when I search for a term that's in the effing NAME of the app.

Pretty stupid.

Ok, I found the app in the Dream Apps forum. I've got it installed and it is freaking sweet. Anyone having problems with aNetShare would be well-advised to just uninstall and install "android-wifi-tether" aka "signed_and_Tether1.51" aka "Wireless Tether for Root Users".

You didn't find it on the market not because the market's search function is broken, but rather that it isn't on the market at all. Tether apps are forbidden from the official market.

It is the first returned entry for a Google search for "wifi tether for root" (or even just "wifi tether"), so I really don't see why you had so much difficulty locating it.

JF 1.51 USA Tmobile, I use anetshare all the time. After it downloaded its own tether bundle it was all smooth.

Granted it does glitch up sometimes.. like it acts like no one is connected when my PC really was. Trick I learned about this is that if you fool around with the wifi enable/disable or if power manager does its thing.. you may lose your link after the G1 goes to sleep. So I have my G1 hooked up to power, screen never on timeout. Wifi on. Always stayed stable then.

Oh yea, I play FFXI using Edge speed via the wifi from the g1. I think thats stable and fast enough. =D Cant wait till 3G hits.. no more getting DCed since someone texts or calls.
