Default Network Sim Unlock code missing

I just purchased a G1 from someone and when I placed a SIM that was not t-mobile in, it did not give me an unlock network code request. Does this mean that someone had tried and entered a wrong one? When there is no sim, it says no sim so i know that the phone at least realizes there's something in there.

TIA for any answers

Can you possibly try getting a T-Mobile SIM in there? Make sure things are connected first...

Well testing with a dead SIM card, it's expected to give you those results. You need to register the phone with a T-Mobile SIM card first, then switch them out. See if that works :]

thanks, il ltry that tomorrow. tonight in the mean time, i had a g1 that i bricked (/cry) but i had it rooted and unlocked. the at&t sim worked fine. for that phone i put the sim in, and it requested an unlock code. I figured this phone would d o the same? also another strange thing is that when i looked at the apn settings there were none. i tried to add one but it wouldnt save. if that's any cause for concern please let me know =p

I gotta rain on your parade and say, I have always had flawless SIM cards :/. Let me know how that whole T-Mobile thing goes!

Actually, you may not have this second phone even unlocked yet. You have to get that code from T-Mobile before you can use other SIM cards.
