Hero only 197mb Ram?

hello!

I've a white HTC Hero here.

when i "cat /proc/meminfo" in pTerminal it says:

MemTotal: 197016 kB
...

The HTC homepage says that the Hero has 288 mb RAM - so why says meminfo only 197mb?

Just found similar posts in G1 forums and here

--> 197mb - thats the available memory for the apps because GPU and radio... use the rest of the RAM.

Yes - there's around 94mb that is "invisible" because it is reserved for the base OS. If you follow the discussions in the Sapphire forum, you'll see that those users with Vodafone branded Magics can only see around 98MB RAM, whereas those with HTC Magics are getting around 196MB which tallies with the specs (Vodaphone Magic 192MB, HTC Magic 288MB).
