I have come to the conclusion that battery drainage is more related to the base ROM drivers and the settings you choose rather than Radio version itself.

Yes. Also the quality of the network signal on your location.

Hi
I'm using 4.49.25.17 with tess pride II rom.
I think the battery seems to go quite quickly but the gps is lightning, its really quick. even from stone cold.
I've got to decide what rom I'm going to be sticking with first then I'll do some messing about with radio's and leave some feedback

edit:
after using today properly for the first time, the gps is really laggy, I've heard people say the gps was laggy about other phones I've had (diamond, rapheal) but never really noticed. This was really laggy ie turn left here! I've just gone past that road etc...

I might give the latest radio a go

My personal experience, I'm always in between 4.48.25.28 and 4.49.25.17 no matter which ROM I use.

Like the abovementioned, your location (signal strength, network quality, carrier, etc) plays significant role too, so not just the radio ROM itself.

Besides, one or two bars on the signal indicator sometimes means nothing. I suspect it's just a smoke-and-mirror thing put together to make you feel better.

All four were able to use both WCDMA 850 and 1900. All four had strengths around the mid -90's for the 1900 channel and around mid -80's for the 850 channel where I was at.

4.48.25.20 (came with my Pure as a the stock radio, and its the one that I went back too)
and 4.49.25.05 both seem to be more willing to swtich back and forth between the bands. 4.48.25.28 and 4.49.25.17 both fiercely held onto the 1900 band. Often times not flipping until the strenth was -105 or so. Not a lot of different for me, Using Dutty HG R5, Leo canvas. BTW, it seems that none of the radio's allow one to select WCDMA 850/1900 in the band selection menu, at least with my current ROM

I understand that ATT wants to use WCDMA 1900 as control channels and tries to keep as much traffic there as they can and reserve the 850 spectrum for all their GSM devices, but holding onto to crappy 1900 sucks when stronger 850 is available. Also, 4.49.25.05 seems to work better with my location of manilla 2.5

In your tests (which is greatly appreciated), the radio sticks to the 1900 band rather than switching off to 850 with the other radios. Would changing to the 25.05 radio in theory improve battery life to the device as, instead of searching and fighting to keep the 1900 band, it would transition over to 850 and stop struggling with 1900? Or, would the fact that it is looking for a stronger signal use up more of the battery? Or does it even make a difference? Just curious...
excellent question from talonz55 remain unanswered:

which one consumes more battery: (A) a radio ROM sticks/holding to certain bandwith/frequency until certain xxx dbm, OR (B) a radio ROM which is flexible on switching between frequencies ?

.17 works the best for me. Very stable and good battery life.
