Solution for Chinese Traditional display and IME on WM6.5 (CHT Only)

Hi,

After going though countless forums looking for Chinese Traditional support and IMEs that works on WM6.5 I have found a solution for those interested.

download and install droid.cab from:

http://www.studiokuma.com/wm/?section=support

This font supports chinese traditional, japanese, korean and english. It was a font taken from android and optimized for PDA/PPC. Take note of the size! Google managed to squeese 4 languages into a size normally one language cab file will take!

Due to this optimization, I read it is also less taxing on the CPU, keeping your device zippy.

For IME I use one found in this xperia x1 thread:

This IME uses English pinyin/phonetics to find the chinese you are looking for. Good for learners and the chinese prediction is excellent. (I think it is modded to work with CHT??)

I have tested this on my current WWE udk R6 rom for Topaz, I have tested contacts creation/editing, sms, web browsing and for me it is by far the best solution in terms of the time required to learn the IME and the word prediction. The only downside is that PlumSIP itself uses chinese simplified in its menus but should not be too hard to figure out.

So how come we still can't find the OEM CHT and CHS inputs that come w/ the Asia and HK/Taiwan roms?

I am actually trying to create a cab from the oem package IME_CHT_2_0_344910_00 from the "RUU_Topaz_hTC_Asia_TW_1.40.709.1_Radio_Sign_Topaz _61.25t.25.19_3.44.25.27_Ship.exe" rom.

The package was converted to a cab with pkg2cab.exe tool (cabtools 0.3) but seems that it does not work on my udk r6 rom. After reset, my phone just hangs. I'll do some comparisons with some IMEs that do work and see if I can figure out the difference. Perhaps I have to remove the WWE IME before I can install the IME_CHT?

I don't know about the CHT IME, but I guess you changed the font as well.

When I changed font to make japanese characters available, I needed to change wince.nls as well. If I use wince.nls from WWE ROM the phone does not boot.

well, in terms of Chinese input method, i find TouchPal much better than HTC ezInput. i'm quite happy with my current config:
WWE rom + chinese font display + ezInput English + TouchPal

I have taken a look at TouchPal and it looks pretty good but the only thing is that you'd have to pay. I Suppose you can get it on torrents but I'd like to get the htc package working, might try to cook it in the rom. Something to do for this Sunday

simplified chinese version of TouchPal is free and can be downloaded from their official bbs. should be ok for chinese
