A) it's not a ROM file, it's an image file.
B) It's not a winrar archive.

My suggestion to you is that you learn more about Android and recovery images and root privileges before trying to flash an image... but if you insist...

Download and follow the directions on the first page.

Ultimately it's you're phone that you'll destroy.

Also - next time try leaving a message without screaming!

You using a GSM Hero?
If so, use BTDAG's guide linked in my signature for installation instructions without using ADB command things.

yes its a GSM hero, when i try to download the recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img, i get a notification from my windows saying ''this archive is either in unknown format or damaged'' ..this is the only problem i am encountering and do not know why?

Do you not read the posts? It's not an archive. it's an image. just follow the instructions from the first post.

You need to check your "default programs" settings in windows. Its trying to open it but you dont want it to.

i do not know how to open an image file.. what program do i need to use.. or better how do you open your image files n then copy them on ur SD card.. if u answer me this i wont need ur help any further as this is the only part im struggling with..

Dude stop stressing people out.

You do not need to open the .img file.

Your PC is trying to open it with some program as soon as it downloads, you need to tell your PC not to do that.

So download the .zip i put up, open that and you will see the .img, then drag that .img to your desktop, DO NOT OPEN IT.

Then either follow the instructions in the 1st post, or follow BTDAG's guide in my signature!!!!

I realize that. i mean that when I try flashing a new recovery image, i lose my ability to boot into recovery completely, and need to redo everything. it hangs at the "HTC" screen when i try to boot to recovery mode.
